Organisation expert, Cathy Player from Howards Storage World visited The Circle earlier this month and gave her top tips for de-cluttering your wardrobe.

Cathy’s tips for an organised wardrobe include:

  • Give your wardrobe an overhaul. 20% of your wardrobe is used 80% of the time. Not only can you create space and find items more easily by decluttering, you can also save time.
  • Start by sorting items into four piles: keep, throw, not sure and give away. Group like items together, e.g. everyday clothes, seasonal clothing, shoes and accessories and create a zone for them in your wardrobe. Remember to keep accessibility.
  • To get the most from your wardrobe space, install a quality, flexible  shelving system and Howards recommends the ingenious elfa® system.
  • If space in your wardrobe is an issue, use clever space saving tiered shirt and trouser hangers. To protect delicate clothes, Howards recommends flocked or satin hangers.
  • To create more space, compress seasonal or less used clothing with the compactor case. This clever case contains a clear storage bag inside which allows efficient stacking of stored seasonal items within a supported frame.
  • A hanging jewellery organiser will keep jewellery, hair bands and ribbons in order to minimise frantic searches when you’re short on time. The clear pockets allow for easy identification and tangle free storage.  A bag organiser is also available.
